um. million dollar decorators is BRILLIANT for many reasons. but kathryn ireland’s “housekeeper” jacqueline has become my style icon. the sunglasses she wears indoors. her head scarves. her crisp white button downs. her love of wine. her french accent. i wish i lived in kathryn’s universe …
Leftover pasta with mushrooms and parmesean (made it last night, VERY good and embarassingly simple) + roasted acorn squash and olive oil and garlic and pine nut heaven. thanks j.e.m. for bringing that recipe into my life last fall.
mellow and chilly and clear afternoon in the valley today. good visit over the hill.
The fence rotted and was basically falling apart so we’ve just replaced it with a simple bull wire fence. We’re also going to plant a bit of rosemary, this nice little variagated shrub, and the final touch: a climbing rose to work some magic on the very simple fence.

This is my own note taking, based on lots of flights with a monster.
1. iPad. Fill with Elmo videos. Try to get new ones because I get bloody sick of seeing the same ones every flight and trip and flight.
2. Snacks (water, another cup for milk, plum organics pouch, cheerios in a snack trap …)
3. A couple tiny toys from CVS … things with lids and containers and mini animals.
4. A few favorite small books.
5. Snacks (cucumbers, grapes in a snack trap, mum mums …)
6. Diapers and wipes and change of clothes (still haven’t needed to change her clothes mid-flight, but i don’t want to get cocky … so i keep bringing them.)
7. Fly after the nap in the afternoon, arrive at desination a little before bedtime. Since we’re always going east the time change works well in that L will stay up a little later, but it’s horrific to have flown and be exhausted from that whole flying thing and then still have hours and hours left of the day. Best to get somewhere, have a tiny bit of downtime and then go straight in to bath and bed. That’s just my experience with L. Other angels sleep on planes.
8. Snacks (single serving peanut butter or hummus, graham crackers …)
9. If you must cry on the flight (meaning ME, not Lucy,) just stay in your seat and don’t make eye contact with other passengers …
Hurray. After a few years of the UGLIEST Costco dog bed, Winnie is getting a present this year from her grandma, Mamou, my mom. I’ve never had the gusto to splurge on a dog bed, so I’m delighted that someone else is paying for it.

my friend just threw the most GORGEOUS shower for her best friend at rolling greens nursery. the china she rented set against the nursery just blew me away. so precious and lovely and well thought-out.
there have been plenty of grilled cheese nights, mac and cheese nights, and more carbohydrate and cheese nights, but in between i’ve made some other more notable meals … turkey chili my most notably notable. i did have plans to make my mom’s beautiful brisket but then i got the flu and it was a million degrees out, so i didn’t make it. i made cheese instead. do you think my toddler is going to turn into cheese?
